I've had the pleasure of doing some product photography for Charlie Kawasaki, CEO of Bettery, Inc. This is a new startup company that's launching today, April 5th in the Portland Area in three Whole Foods Markets stores (Pearl, Hollywood and Mill Plain Vancouver). The mission is to create a less costly and more convenient way to use and swap rechargeable batteries – saving consumers money while getting the single-use alkaline batteries out of the waste stream.
The idea is simple, much like the Redbox DVD rentals; go to a store, buy batteries at a station, take them home and use them up. When drained, take them back to a store and swap at the station for fresh batteries at a big cost savings.
To make stepping up to BETTERY even easier, they’re putting on FREE OF CHARGE monthly battery recycling events. With partner Total Reclaim, they will recycle your drained household batteries in an environmentally responsible manner at no cost to you. The first event is April 13th, from 9AM to 3PM, at all Swap Station locations, a team will be standing by to collect your batteries for recycling, and introduce you to this solution.
